Assessment of tick infestation rate among local and exotic dog breeds in Kano municipal, Kano state, Nigeria

Presence research was designed to carry out assessment of ticks infestation rate and risk factors among local exotic breed dogs with the aims determining prevalence its demographic in Kano. Total six hundred five (605) were sampled. The breed, age, sex months recorded. overall Infestation 605 examined 352 (58.1%). Breed wise, Ticks recorded higher 74.7% than 33.1%. Sex tick male female. Age there high adult 81.5% 31.0% young dogs. Prevalence month December 62.4% January 58.5% followed by February 55.1%, November 57.4% October 53.3%. Two genera identified Boophilus (91.6%) having highest Rhabicephalus (8.3%).In conclusion, tick’s is very compared other studies. Regular effective medical care, improve hygiene fumigating environment acaricide will help control a borne disease recommended.
